Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested then Inspector of Works, South Eastern Railway, Bhubaneswar from DRM Chowpathy, Alipurduar (West Bengal). He was absconding since 15 July, 2008.

CBI had registered a case on 20 August 1999 and filed a chargesheet in the case on 31 January 2002 against the then Inspector of Works, Grade-II, South Eastern Railway, Bhubaneswar and four others on the allegations that the said accused and others misappropriated steel rods, cement bags etc. and thereby caused alleged loss of Rs.27,35,518/- (approx) to the South Eastern Railway.

The said accused was absconding since filing of chargesheet and the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Bhubaneswar had issued Non Bailable Warrant (NBW) against him on 15 July 2008. The arrested accused will be produced before the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Bhubaneswar.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has on Friday conducted searches at 20 different places in West Bengal including Kolkata at the official as well as residential premises of the accused persons in an on-going investigation of a chit fund case. During the searches, several incriminating documents have been recovered.

A case was registered against a CMD and others including Directors of Kolkata based Group of Companies in accordance with the Orders of the Supreme Court. It was alleged that the accused persons collected huge amount of deposit from the public to the tune of Rs.three crore (approx.) on assurance to repay the amount with high rate of interest. It was further alleged that the accused persons did not repay and closed down the office and thereby cheated the investors and misappropriated the invested amount. Investigation is continuing.
