Kolkata: The largest contingent of Chinese companies will participate in this year's Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) from 16 January in this Eastern Metropolis. In an attempt to rebuild the close and cordial relationship with India as before, leaving the memory of last year's Doklam border dispute and other tensions behind, for the first time, 30 Chinese companies will participate.
Chinese Consul General in Kolkata, Ma Zhanwu said that of these 30 companies from different sectors, at least four each were coming from Jiangsu and Shandong provinces and others from Yunnan and Kungmin regions. Some were also expected from Shanghai and Beijing regions, he said adding Vice-Governor of Jiangshu province Chen Zhenning would lead the high powered Chinese delegation.
Reiterating that both India and China were determined to leave the bilateral disputes and diplomatic tensions between the two neighbours during last year (2017) 'far behind' and look forward to a new beginning for a renewed close and cordial socio-economic relations, the Chinese Consul General said with the participation of such a large number of major Chinese companies in the forthcoming BGBS next week, new business opportunities in the manufacturing of electronics goods and components, as well as those in the areas of textile, rubber products, engineering and financial sectors would be explored at the B2B (Business to Business) level.
Highlighting some of the major decisions taken at the recently held 19th National Congress of the Chinese Communist party in Beijing, the Chinese envoy said it had decided to further expand its reform process and open up business ventures in new geographies of the world. Accordingly, 'our government has decided to put greater emphasis on developing closer ties with Eastern India, particularly with West Bengal keeping in view its aggressive move towards improving business with other countries,Zhanwe said.
Later speaking to Hindusthan Samachar on the sidelines of the meet, the Chinese Consul General said recently a high power business delegation from India also visited Beijing, Shanghai and several other top Chinese cities to explore greater business opportunities there through the path of joint ventures.
Though he refused to disclose the amount of business agreements signed between the Indian and Chinese companies during that visit, Zhanwe claimed that encouraged by the roaring success of leading Indian conglomerates like the Tatas, the Reliance and the Mahindras, many new Indian corporate houses had now come forward to invest in China, 'like we do in India'.
When his attention was drawn towards the ease of doing business in India vis e vis other countries, the Chinese envoy hailed the efforts being done under the leadership of Prime minister Narendra Modi and said its reflection was being seen with the participation of more Chinese companies not only in BGBS but also in several other international and bilateral business summit in other states.
“China aims to invest as much as 200 billion USD abroad every year and this year we hope to utilise a major chunk of it in and around the Indian sub continent,” Zhanwu said but refused to elaborate further.
